ZURICH, Sept 2 (Reuters) – The suspect in a shooting that killed one person and injured six others at a rave party in \u200cAarau, northern Switzerland, at the weekend handed himself in and \u200cadmitted responsibility for the attack, Swiss police said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The 43-year-old Swiss man was arrested on \u200bMonday, a day after the shooting.<\/p>\n
In a press conference on Wednesday the commander of Aargau cantonal police said there was no indication anyone else had been involved.<\/p>\n
“We can say with near certainty that the arrested man is the person \u200cwho shot at the \u2060rave partygoers on Sunday,” Michael Leupold said.<\/p>\n
“We therefore assume, with a high degree of certainty, that the shooting was the \u2060act of one individual \u2014 a lone perpetrator.”<\/p>\n
Police had been seeking to trace the man and his vehicle when he went to a police station in Delemont, about \u200b33 \u200bmiles (53 km) away from Aarau in his \u200bhome canton of Jura, and \u200csaid he was responsible.<\/p>\n
The man has not been named, in accordance with Swiss law.<\/p>\n
Police found three weapons in his car: an AK-74 Kalashnikov assault rifle and two pistols. Investigators said the assault rifle and one of the pistols had been fired during the attack.<\/p>\n
Police said the man drove to the \u200cvenue, and fired more than 40 shots \u200bindiscriminately into the crowd of more than 100 \u200bpeople.<\/p>\n
He then returned to the \u200bparking lot where he fired several shots from a pistol \u200cincluding at a vehicle that was \u200bdriving away.<\/p>\n
A 22-year-old \u200bItalian woman was killed in the shooting, while six other people were injured. Two remain in hospital, where their condition was said to \u200bbe improving.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors said there \u200cwere indications the suspect may have mental health issues. Police said \u200bthere was no evidence of an ideological or extremist motive.<\/p>\n
