ZURICH, Sept 8 (Reuters) – Swiss drugmaker Novartis on Tuesday said a late-stage study \u200cassessing drug del-desiran’s impact on myotonic dystrophy, \u200ca form of muscle wasting, had not met its \u200btarget on a key metric, but reaffirmed its sales guidance through 2030. <\/p>\n
Novartis said in a statement that the Phase III HARBOR \u200cstudy “did not demonstrate \u2060statistically significant improvement versus placebo on the primary endpoint of video hand \u2060opening time”, a measure of hand myotonia. <\/p>\n
Shreeram Aradhye, President of Development and Chief Medical \u200bOfficer at \u200bNovartis, said that \u200bdeveloping therapies for \u200ca disease like myotonic dystrophy type 1 remains challenging, and that setbacks are part of scientific progress. <\/p>\n
The company’s announcement came a day after shares in Novartis fell by more \u200cthan 3% on news \u200bthat its cholesterol drug \u200bfailed in a \u200bclosely watched study, dealing a \u200cblow to what investors \u200bhad seen as \u200ba blockbuster treatment. <\/p>\n
Novartis said it was sticking to its guidance that sales would \u200bgrow at \u200ca compound annual rate of 5-6% \u200bfrom 2025 to 2030. <\/p>\n
