Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has indicated a willingness to hold further talks with the United States following a second round of high-level negotiations on Tehran’s nuclear program.<\/p>\n
The meeting was held in Geneva, Switzerland, on Tuesday. Participants included Araghchi, US special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.<\/p>\n
The first round of talks took place earlier in February after a hiatus of about eight months.<\/p>\n
After the meeting, Araghchi said there had been a constructive atmosphere and added, “we were able to reach a general agreement on a set of guiding principles, based on which we will proceed from now on and enter the text of a possible agreement.”<\/p>\n
No date has been announced for the next round of negotiations. Araghchi suggested there is still a gap between the two sides that will take time to narrow.<\/p>\n
Ahead of the talks, the US said it would send a second aircraft carrier to the Middle East, ramping up military pressure on Iran.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Iran’s elite Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps began exercises on Tuesday in the Strait of Hormuz.
