{"id":14752,"date":"2026-02-21T06:14:22","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T06:14:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/14752\/"},"modified":"2026-02-21T06:14:22","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T06:14:22","slug":"us-womens-curling-survives-switzerland-to-book-2nd-ever-olympic-semifinals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/14752\/","title":{"rendered":"US Women&#8217;s Curling Survives Switzerland to Book 2nd-Ever Olympic Semifinals"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>US women&#8217;s curling has eyes on the prize, with <a href=\"https:\/\/justwomenssports.com\/reads\/us-womens-curling-first-olympic-win-canada-2026-milan-cortina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Team USA<\/a> surviving a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SPORTSandTV1\/status\/2024276526837989668\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">four-team race<\/a> for the final two Olympic semifinal spots by defeating Switzerland in a 7-6 thriller on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Kicking off the matchup tied for third on a 5-3 round-robin record with Canada and South Korea \u2014\u00a0with defending champion Great Britain&#8217;s semifinal hopes trailing just behind on a 4-4 tally \u2014 the USA&#8217;s most direct path to this weekend&#8217;s Olympic medal rounds required a win over the already-qualified Swiss squad.<\/p>\n<p>Led by newly crowned mixed doubles silver medalist <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DUlqrJmEmzr\/?img_index=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Cory Thiesse<\/a>, the US entered Thursday&#8217;s win-and-in game coming off a stinging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcolympics.com\/videos\/great-britain-steals-two-10th-take-down-us-curling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">8-7 loss<\/a> to Great Britain \u2014\u00a0a contest that would have clinched their semis spot had the USA claimed victory.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;That one hurt a little more,&#8221; captain Tabitha Peterson said postgame. &#8220;I think maybe I just attacked wrong on my second-to-last shot, and then I just didn&#8217;t make my last one either.
