{"id":15535,"date":"2026-02-22T12:40:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-22T12:40:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/15535\/"},"modified":"2026-02-22T12:40:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-22T12:40:08","slug":"germany-goes-1-2-switzerland-claims-first-four-man-bobsled-medal-in-20-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/15535\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany goes 1-2, Switzerland claims first four-man bobsled medal in 20 years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\">Since four-man bobsled made its Winter Olympics debut at Chamonix 1924, a German team has medaled at all but seven Games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">On the final day of Olympic action, Germany closed the book on sliding sports at Milan Cortina 2026 the same way they started it: In utterly dominant fashion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">And on his last-ever Olympic run, it was\u00a0Johannes Lochner\u00a0and his crew &#8211; Thorsten Margis, Jorn Wenzel and Georg Fleischhauer &#8211; taking gold. Lochner thus completed his own sweep of the men\u2019s bobsled events after winning the two-man with Fleischhauer on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcolympics.com\/results\/bobsled\/four-man-bobsled?eventUnitId=d3296ee4-3699-3371-b1be-df7a07a0b364&amp;scheduleSessionId=3ff892b9-a505-6f9c-e796-1a7ee6d34da5\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RESULTS<\/a><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Margis also became the first five-time gold medalist in bobsled history.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Francesco Friedrich added a second silver medal of his 2026 Games to bring his career total to six Olympic medals.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">It was an incredible final run for the Swiss sled piloted by\u00a0Michael Vogt, which sat in 4th place through the first three runs. It took setting a time just six hundredths off Lochner\u2019s final run to secure bronze and prevent Olympic rookie\u00a0Adam Ammour from taking his second bronze of the Games.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The medal marked Switzerland\u2019s first in bobsled since\u00a0Beat Hefti and\u00a0Alex Baumann won gold in two-man at Sochi 2014, and snapped a 20-year four-man medal drought.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland&#8217;s Michael Vogt, Andreas Haas, Amadou David Ndiaye and Mario Aeberhard pose with their bronze medals after the four-man bobsled competition. It was Switzerland&#8217;s first bobsled medal since 2014 and first four-man medal since 2006.<\/p>\n<p>Richard Heathcote\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Kris Horn piloted the leading American sled, finishing 11th in his Olympic debut and 2.37 seconds off the top pace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Frank Del Duca and his crew were not far behind in 12th, just 0.12 seconds from their countrymen. It was a massive amount of time Del Duca made up after his sled started 27th, due to not competing in the final World Cup race before the Olympics. The finish was also Del Duca\u2019s Olympic-best after he finished 13th in the event at Beijing 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Frank Del Duca acknowledges the crowd after finishing his final run with Boone Niederhofer, Bryan Sosoo and Joshua Williamson.
