{"id":20026,"date":"2026-02-26T16:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-02-26T16:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/20026\/"},"modified":"2026-02-26T16:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-02-26T16:38:08","slug":"live-iran-says-talks-with-us-paused-to-resume-later-today-in-geneva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/20026\/","title":{"rendered":"Live &#8211; Iran says talks with US paused, to resume later today in Geneva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"CustomPortableTextComponents-module-scss-module__peBeZa__paragraph\">The US Treasury Department on Thursday proposed a rule to cut Swiss lender MBaer Merchant Bank AG off from the US financial system, alleging it handled funds tied to illicit networks linked to Iran and Russia.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CustomPortableTextComponents-module-scss-module__peBeZa__paragraph\">The US Treasury said the bank and some employees enabled money laundering connected to Venezuelan and Russian corruption and processed transactions benefiting Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guards and its Quds Force, both under US sanctions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"CustomPortableTextComponents-module-scss-module__peBeZa__paragraph\">&#8220;MBaer has funneled over a hundred million dollars \u2060through the US financial system on behalf of illicit actors tied to Iran \u200cand Russia,&#8221; \u200bTreasury Secretary Scott Bessent said in a statement. <\/p>\n<p class=\"CustomPortableTextComponents-module-scss-module__peBeZa__paragraph\">&#8220;Banks should be on \u200bnotice that the US Treasury will aggressively \u2060protect the integrity of the US financial \u200csystem using the full force of \u200bour authorities,&#8221; Bessent added. <\/p>\n<p class=\"CustomPortableTextComponents-module-scss-module__peBeZa__paragraph\">If finalized, the measure would bar US financial institutions from maintaining correspondent accounts for MBaer.
