TEHRAN \u2013 The third round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the U.S. started in Geneva on Thursday with the mediation of Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi.<\/p>\n
The talks are intended to give assurances that Iran\u2019s nuclear program will remain peaceful and lift sanctions on the country.<\/p>\n
The Iranian negotiating team is led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the U.S. team by special envoy Steve Witkoff.<\/p>\n
Oman has presented Iran\u2019s proposals to U.S. in this round of negotiations, the Omani Foreign Ministry wrote on X.<\/p>\n
No details have been provided about the content of the Iranian proposals, IRNA reported.<\/p>\n
The Omani Foreign Ministry said al-Busaidi went over the U.S. inquiries and requests regarding Iran\u2019s nuclear program and the necessary guarantees to achieve a deal, and said the talks were continuing in a \u201cconstructive\u201d way.<\/p>\n
The location is the Omani diplomatic residence in Geneva along the shores of Lake Geneva.\u00a0<\/p>\n
An advisor to the Leader of the Islamic Revolution suggested on Thursday that Iran could reach an immediate agreement in talks with the U.S. if they focused solely Iran\u2019s commitment not to develop nuclear weapons.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf the main issue of the negotiations is Iran\u2019s non-development of nuclear weapons, this is consistent with the Supreme Leader\u2019s fatwa [religious declaration] and Iran\u2019s defense doctrine, and an immediate agreement is within reach,\u201d Ali Shamkhani wrote on X.<\/p>\n
He added that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has \u201csufficient support and authority\u201d to come to a final agreement in the talks.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, before departing Tehran for Geneva, Foreign Minister Araghchi told India Today that \u201ca fair, balanced, and equitable deal is achievable\u201d with the United States.\u00a0

Prior to the start of the talks, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei told Iran\u2019s state TV that negotiations, as in previous rounds, will focus solely on the nuclear issue.<\/p>\n
