Each year, ETH Zurich offers around 360 places on taster courses in different vocational fields, with current\u00a0apprentices\u00a0providing support. \u201cWe\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0use taster courses for recruitment purposes. Instead,\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0exclusively designed to guide young people in their career choices,\u201d explains Sandra Rosenfelder. The aim is to allow young people to explore different professions free from any pressure to perform. \u201cWe don\u2019t issue grades for the taster\u00a0courses\u00a0because we don\u2019t feel it\u2019s possible to make a sound, reliable assessment in such a short time and given the variety of trainers involved.\u201d<\/p>\n
In addition to taster\u00a0courses, ETH hosts\u00a0special events\u00a0such as\u00a0Schnuppern2\u00a0(Schnuppern\u00a0= Tasting courses),\u00a0which enable young people to explore two professions in one day. These pre-set\u00a0tandem sessions are designed so that, in addition to the profession participants feel is their dream choice, they also engage with careers\u00a0that might not be\u00a0at the top of their list. Directly comparing\u00a0different roles\u00a0allows young people to\u00a0identify\u00a0which careers are best suited to their abilities.
