The Houston Texans<\/a> have to sort out their situation at running back.<\/p>\n

Nick Chubb will be a free agent<\/a> this offseason and the status of Joe Mixon remains up in the air after he missed the entire 2025 season<\/a> with a mysterious foot injury.<\/p>\n

Depending on what’s going on behind the scenes with Mixon, there is a very real chance the Texans simply decide to cut ties with him.<\/p>\n

If that happens, Woody Marks and Jawhar Jordan would be the only notable backs under contract in Houston and it goes without saying that duo simply isn’t enough.<\/p>\n

To remedy the situation, ESPN’s Aaron Schatz<\/a> predicts the Texans will sign New York Jets<\/a> pending free-agent running back Breece Hall this offseason.<\/p>\n

“I’ve heard plenty of potential new homes for running back\u00a0Breece Hall, but never Houston,” he said. Why not?\u00a0Joe Mixon’s career might be over after he missed the 2025 season because of a\u00a0foot injury, and Marks looks more suited as a rotation player than lead back. The Texans need a strong running game to eat clock and complement their ferocious defense.”<\/p>\n

The Texans sported the No. 22 rushing attack in the NFL this past season and that is not going to cut it. Part of the problem is the run-blocking upfront, but the Texans could also simply use an upgrade at the position.<\/p>\n

Hall would qualify as such.<\/p>\n

He’s a home-run threat whenever the ball is in his hands, both as a rusher and pass-catcher, and he’s coming off a season in which he tallied 1,000 yards on the ground despite being on one of the worst offenses in the sport.<\/p>\n

Signing Hall would push Marks to a rotational roll he is more suited for, and that would be a strong one-two punch capable of taking pressure off C.J. Stroud, who cannot be relied upon to carry this offense after what we saw on Sunday.<\/p>\n

The problem with this idea is that the Jets may not be keen on letting Hall walk in free agency. Even if Hall doesn’t want to stay, the Jets can tag and trade him, which would certainly complicate things for the Texans and any other interested party.<\/p>\n

Either way, we would expect the Texans to at least explore acquiring Hall this offseason.<\/p>\n
