Key aims include respecting the historic site and responding to the museum\u2019s inclusive identity while also upgrading environmental sustainability in line with local targets.<\/p>\n
The competition coincides with the museum\u2019s 50th anniversary and the launch of the exhibition \u2018Art Brut in Switzerland: From the Origins of the Collection to Today.\u2019<\/p>\n
According to the brief: \u2018The contracting authority intention is to allow the Mus\u00e9e de l\u2019Art Brut to expand while remaining at its current site. The aim is to provide a museum whose architectural and landscape design meets ambitious criteria for site integration, functionality, innovation, and sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u2018Preserving and enhancing the quality of the Ch\u00e2teau de Beaulieu, as well as the site\u2019s landscape heritage, is a priority. The contracting authority intends to create an inclusive space that considers the needs of users, staff, and local residents, ensuring a rational and efficient implementation that fulfills expectations for environmental protection and sustainability.<\/p>\n
\u2018Specifically, this involves optimizing the building\u2019s footprint and technical systems to ensure maximum preservation of open ground, prioritizing permeable surfaces, and integrating all possible measures to promote biodiversity in accordance with the Lausanne Action Plan.\u2019<\/p>\n
Located on Lake Geneva, Lausanne is a historic city of around 140,000 residents. The Collection de l\u2019Art Brut is a city centre museum dedicated to showcasing art from non-traditional backgrounds.<\/p>\n
The anonymous competition is divided into two stages with the first stage focussing on urban form and open to architects or architectural groups.<\/p>\n
