Zurich Engineering has become the first engineering company to introduce a full range of tailor\u2011made personal protective equipment (PPE) for women \u2014 including 3\u2011in\u20111 jackets, hi\u2011vis clothing, trousers, and safety harnesses. The aim is to close the long\u2011standing gender PPE gap, addressing the discomfort and safety risks caused by ill\u2011fitting, male\u2011designed equipment that can discourage women from entering or remaining in the profession.<\/p>\n
This comes at a timely moment: BSI has just launched a new British Standard to address critical gaps in how PPE fits women and to improve workplace safety across UK industries:\u00a0\u00a0BSI launches a new standard to address critical gaps in PPE fit, retain skilled workers, and boost workplace safety | BSI<\/a>.<\/p>\n I have three strong case studies and photos, from female engineer surveyors who have struggled with PPE in the past, from harnesses that don\u2019t fit to jackets that gape or trousers that are too long. Each can speak to the difference the new female\u2011fit design has made to their comfort, confidence and ability to focus on the job.
