Switzerland has<br \/>\ncalled for de-escalation in the Middle East, <a href=\"http:\/\/trend.az\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Trend<\/a> reports via the Swiss<br \/>\nFederal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).<\/p>\n<p>According to FDFA&#8217;s statement, Switzerland is deeply alarmed by<br \/>\nthe escalation in the Middle East. It calls for full compliance<br \/>\nwith international law and urges de-escalation.<\/p>\n<p>This escalation followed the 3rd round of nuclear talks between<br \/>\nIran and the United States, held in Geneva on February 26, 2026.<br \/>\nConducted under the administration of President Donald Trump, the<br \/>\nnegotiations were perceived as a final opportunity for a diplomatic<br \/>\nresolution; however, no agreements were reached.<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, on February 28, the U.S. and Israel initiated a<br \/>\ncoordinated military campaign targeting Iran&#8217;s strategic military<br \/>\nassets and government leadership. Israel referred to the operation<br \/>\nas &#8220;Operation Lion&#8217;s Roar,&#8221; while the U.S. labeled it &#8220;Operation<br \/>\nEpic Fury.&#8221; The attacks affected vast regions of Iran, including<br \/>\nmajor cities such as Tehran, Isfahan, Tabriz, and Qom.<\/p>\n<p>In retaliation, Iran launched ballistic missiles and drone<br \/>\nstrikes on February 28 and the following days, targeting Israeli<br \/>\nand U.S. military bases across the region, including facilities in<br \/>\nJordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and Iraq.<\/p>\n<p>In a significant escalation, military airstrikes conducted by<br \/>\nIsrael and the United States the previous day have reportedly<br \/>\nresulted in the deaths of Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader Seyyed Ali Khamenei<br \/>\nand several members of his family.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, several of Iran\u2019s most senior military and<br \/>\nsecurity officials were killed in the airstrikes, including Chief<br \/>\nof Staff Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Islamic Revolutionary<br \/>\nGuard Corps (IRGC) Commander-in-Chief Mohammad Pakpour, Supreme<br \/>\nLeader adviser and Defense Council Secretary Ali Shamkhani, and<br \/>\nDefense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh.<\/p>\n<p>On March 1-5, the conflict escalated to encompass various<br \/>\ncountries in the Middle East; Iran launched hundreds of missiles<br \/>\nand drones, and the U.S. and Israel struck new military targets in<br \/>\nIranian territory.<\/p>\n<p>On March 4, a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine torpedoed the Iranian<br \/>\nfrigate IRIS Dena in the Indian Ocean, signaling that the conflict<br \/>\nhad entered a naval phase.<\/p>\n<p>Stay up-to-date with more news on Trend News<br \/>\nAgency&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/whatsapp.com\/channel\/0029VaDeZSSD8SE3IQQJrJ3z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WhatsApp channel<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 6.
