{"id":26698,"date":"2026-03-06T15:39:13","date_gmt":"2026-03-06T15:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/26698\/"},"modified":"2026-03-06T15:39:13","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T15:39:13","slug":"ex-ny-cop-d-a-r-e-officer-pleads-guilty-to-selling-drugs-out-of-his-squad-car-while-on-duty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/26698\/","title":{"rendered":"Ex-NY cop, D.A.R.E. officer pleads guilty to selling drugs out of his squad car while on duty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A former upstate New York cop, who also served as a D.A.R.E. officer, pleaded guilty to 40 narcotics-related charges for peddling drugs on the job last May. <\/p>\n<p>Michael Tapscott resigned from the Geneva Police Department last year after he was accused of selling Adderall, a Schedule 2 controlled substance, to a buyer at a used car dealership while on duty and in his squad car.<\/p>\n<p>Tapscott, a Geneva cop for 13 years, also served as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education, or D.A.R.E., officer in the community, a program founded in 1983 geared toward keeping kids away from drugs and gangs.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:0.94140625;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38685105\" width=\"555\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/2025-charged-criminal-sale-controlled-122833322.jpg\" alt=\"Mugshot of Geneva Police Officer Michael Tapscott.\" class=\"wp-image-38685105\"  \/>Former Geneva cop Michael Tapscott pleaded guilty to a range of drug charges and will serve 16 weekends in jail followed by five years probation. Ontario County Sheriff&#8217;s Office<\/p>\n<p>Tapscott\u2019s plea at an Ontario County Court came last month after new charges came to light, including three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, three counts of criminal sale of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, and two counts of official misconduct.<\/p>\n<p>His plea deal will see him serve just 16 weekends in jail and five years probation, special prosecutor Christine Callanan told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rochesterfirst.com\/crime\/former-geneva-police-officer-pleads-guilty-to-selling-drugs-while-on-duty\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Rochester First<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.75945017;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"38685107\" width=\"1024\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/former-geneva-police-officer-pleaded-122833318.jpg\" alt=\"A black and white Geneva police vehicle with a &quot;POLICE City of Geneva&quot; decal on its side.\" class=\"wp-image-38685107\"  \/>Investigators found he sold Adderall, a prescription Schedule 2 substance, out of his squad car at a used car dealership last year. WROC<\/p>\n<p>Three other officers allegedly involved in Tapscott\u2019s scheme were also indicted, accused of being solicited by the rogue officer to buy and sell narcotics, both while on- and off-duty, including Geneva Police Sgt.
