This follows an integration with a platform that converts cryptocurrency to and from traditional currency.<\/p>\n<p>The platform&#8217;s payment system, which already supports several other digital currencies and stablecoins, allows Cardano users to spend <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/cardano-usd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">ADA<\/a> directly at checkout by scanning a code. Merchants reportedly receive the payment in Swiss francs.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, 137 Spar stores in Switzerland and Liechtenstein are equipped to accept payments through this system. A map indicates that stores in certain major Swiss cities have not yet been activated.<\/p>\n<p>The Chief Executive of the Cardano Foundation described the integration as the start of a shift in societal value transfer and a step toward making ADA payments commonplace. The platform&#8217;s documentation states it does not include specific protection against a theoretical double-spend issue for physical stores, noting the complexity involved and comparing the risk to other forms of non-payment.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland has been an early adopter of cryptocurrency, with hundreds of businesses in one city accepting <a href=\"https:\/\/app.indexbox.io\/indicators\/symbol\/bitcoin-usd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Bitcoin<\/a>. A citizen-led effort has sought a constitutional change to permit the national bank to hold Bitcoin in its reserves.
