(Photo by Fabrice COFFRINI \/ AFP)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On February 28, the US and Israel launched their war on Iran, which has seen the Islamic Republic in return strike targets in multiple countries in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>During the session on Iran\u2019s record, Bahreini urged the UN\u2019s top rights body to instead discuss the Iranian cultural heritage under \u201cindiscriminate\u201d attack and \u201cthe innocent children massacred at their school desks\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Iran has accused the United States and Israel of conducting a deadly missile attack on a school in the southern city of Minab. Washington has said it is investigating the incident.<\/p>\n<p>The ambassador said more than 1,300 people had been killed in Iran and more than 7,000 injured since the US-Israeli strikes began.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder such circumstances, what exactly is Iran expected to do?\u201d he asked, stating: \u201cIran is not a nation that submits to coercion, intimidation or lawless aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Calls For Negotiations<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The six Gulf Cooperation Council countries, plus Jordan, condemned Iran\u2019s attacks on their territories, saying they endangered regional security and civilian lives, and \u201ccannot be justified under any pretext\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The United States and Israel have stopped participating in the Human Rights Council.<\/p>\n<p>Russia condemned the US and Israel for \u201cseeking to destroy this dissenting country\u201d and urged them to \u201cend their aggressive actions\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>China said it was \u201cgravely concerned\u201d by the strikes against Iran, condemned all attacks on civilians and urged all parties to \u201ccease military operations immediately and return to dialogue\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Britain said it wanted a \u201cswift return to security and stability\u201d and said Tehran must not \u201cexploit conflict to inflict further violence on its people\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>France said a lasting diplomatic solution was necessary \u201cto end the war and for Iran to stop being a threat to its neighbours and the entire international community\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Massive Crackdown Fears<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The UN Human Rights Council was holding an interactive dialogue between nations and the council\u2019s special rapporteur on rights in Iran and its fact-finding mission on the country.<\/p>\n<p>Special rapporteur Mai Sato said that the US-Israeli strikes \u201cremain unlawful, no matter the assumed or stated objectives\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>She said Tehran\u2019s deadly crackdown on the nationwide protests that began on December 28 \u2014 in which, in a conservative figure that may rise, \u201cover 7,000 deaths have been reported by civil society\u201d \u2014 had followed a \u201cpattern of persecution\u201d that long predated the uprising.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1009858\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns=\" http:=\"\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\" data-lazy- data-lazy- data-lazy-src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/AFP__20260316__A3FP7ZQ__v1__MidRes__SwitzerlandIranConflictUnRights.jpg\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1009858\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/AFP__20260316__A3FP7ZQ__v1__MidRes__SwitzerlandIranConflictUnRights.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"800\"  \/>Iran\u2019s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva Ali Bahreini (C) delivers a speech following a report of the United Nations\u2019 Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Islamic Republic of Iran during a session of the UN Human Rights Council, in Geneva on March 16, 2026.
