Mary Ann enjoyed a life well lived and is now peacefully reunited with
loved ones.
Mary Ann was born in Napoleon, Ohio on June 27, 1928, to Edgar Meineke and Verna (Thielman)
Meineke. She married William (Bill) Chubb in 1951, and he preceded her in death on December
6, 2020. Mary Ann is survived by four sons: Tom of Denver, Colorado, Phil (Becky) of Charlotte,
North Carolina, Bruce of Findlay, Ohio, and Chip (Natalie) of Columbus, Ohio; eleven
grandchildren: Bill, John, Emily, Ryan, Erin, Kristen, Janie, Tyler, Abby, Caroline, and Catherine;
and eight great grand children. Her oldest son, David, died in 1985.
Mary Ann was raised in Napoleon with her younger sister Donna, who survives her. Many of the
people living in and around Napoleon were born of immigrants, the majority of whom were of
German heritage. A strong work ethic and strong Christian values were part of the community.
Many were of the Lutheran faith.
Mary Ann’s Lutheran background led her to enroll in Capital University in Columbus, Ohio after
graduating from high school in 1946. She was a music major specializing in piano and graduated
in 1950. She married Bill Chubb the next year. Bill graduated from the Dental School at Ohio State
University. Bill was also raised in Napoleon, Ohio. Bill and Mary Ann’s two oldest boys, David and
Tom, were born in Columbus while Bill was still in school. Upon graduation, Bill was drafted into
the Navy and spent a year in Japan. Mary Ann took the boys back to Napoleon and lived with her
parents. Upon returning to the States, Bill was assigned to Key West Naval Air Station, and the
family lived there for a couple of years. The twins, Bruce and Phil, were born in Key West.
After Bill finished his commitment to the Navy, they returned with their four sons in tow, and Bill
established a general dental practice in Findlay, Ohio. Their youngest son, Chip, was born in
Findlay. Mary Ann taught piano for a number of years before concentrating on her family and
community-oriented organizations. She was involved in PEO, Chopin Hall, CCL, AAUW, and First
Lutheran Church in Findlay in various roles and volunteer positions. She also sang in the church
choir.
Mary Ann had a wealth of friends and enjoyed traveling with Bill and friends to many places around
the world. After the boys were out of college, Bill and Mary Ann bought a home in the Oak Run
retirement community in Ocala, Florida where they spent their winters and met many new friends.
They eventually sold the Florida home and their Findlay home and bought a condo on a pretty
lake in Findlay. Bill and Mary Ann enjoyed their retirement years and especially the peace of their
surroundings.
Mary Anne’s “celebration of life” service will take place on June 27, 2026, at First Lutheran Church,
109 E. Lincoln St., Findlay, Ohio at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial is scheduled prior to the
service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to CHOPIN Hall, one of Mary Ann’s favorite
charitable organizations: www.chopinhall.org
CHOPIN Hall, 1800 N.
