(WITN) &#8211; New Bern residents may see smoke in areas as the city will begin controlled burning for the North Carolina Department of Transportation Highway 43 Connector Project.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">New Bern has issued a burn permit for ground clearing as part of the NCDOT Highway 43 Connector Project, which extends between Highways 17\/70 &amp; Business 17. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Officials say contractual burning will occur from Monday to January 23rd, weather permitting, and residents should be aware of smoke in the area, especially west of Greenbrier &amp; north of Craeberne Forest. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Contract crews will be on site during active burn hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For questions or more information about this project, residents can call NCDOT Resident Engineer Stanley Harrell at (252)775-6530. <\/p>\n<p class=\"copyright |\">Copyright 2026 WITN.
