{"id":39578,"date":"2026-03-27T07:25:12","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T07:25:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/39578\/"},"modified":"2026-03-27T07:25:12","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T07:25:12","slug":"glaciers-in-austria-are-shrinking-after-warm-winter-and-early-summer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/39578\/","title":{"rendered":"Glaciers in Austria are shrinking after warm winter and early summer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Glaciers in Austria have shrunk by an average of about 20 metres from 2024 to 2025, the Austrian Alpine Club reported.<\/p>\n<p>This shrinking is happening in almost all of the 96 areas that scientists studied.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to get ready for a future where the Alps may not have any glaciers,\u201d said Nicole Slupetzky, the vice-president of the Alpine Club.<\/p>\n<p>When areas lose their ice, there is a higher risk of rockfalls and landslides.<\/p>\n<p>These glaciers have been shrinking for 20 years. Glaciers are an important source of freshwater.<\/p>\n<p>The weather during the study was not good for the glaciers. After a warm winter with little snow, there was a warm early summer.
