Swiss food giant Nestl\u00e9 has reported the theft of around 12 tons of its KitKat chocolate bars, equivalent to about 413,793 individual pieces. The shipment disappeared after leaving a production facility in Italy earlier this week while being transported to Poland.<\/p>\n
Based in Vevey, Switzerland, the company confirmed on Friday that the vehicle carrying the cargo, along with its entire load, has not yet been located.<\/p>\n
Goods Lost En Route Across Europe<\/p>\n
The stolen shipment, consisting of the well-known wafer-filled chocolate bars, went missing last week during transit between production and distribution centers. These products were intended for delivery and sale across various European markets.<\/p>\n
Nestl\u00e9 said there is a concern that the missing chocolate could potentially enter unofficial or unauthorized sales channels across Europe.<\/p>\n
Tracking and Security Measures<\/p>\n
However, the company noted that each individual bar can be identified through a unique batch code. This traceability system allows consumers, retailers, and wholesalers to verify whether a product belongs to the stolen shipment by scanning the packaging.<\/p>\n
If a match is found, the system provides instructions on how to report it directly to the company, which will then handle the investigation and follow-up.<\/p>\n

In its response, KitKat acknowledged the unusual nature of the incident, stating, \u201cWhilst we appreciate the criminals\u2019 exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes.\u201d<\/p>\n
