{"id":40806,"date":"2026-03-29T07:44:18","date_gmt":"2026-03-29T07:44:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/40806\/"},"modified":"2026-03-29T07:44:18","modified_gmt":"2026-03-29T07:44:18","slug":"tom-pidcock-suffers-horror-crash-after-falling-down","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/40806\/","title":{"rendered":"Tom Pidcock suffers horror crash after falling down\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SEI286858136.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"\/>Tom Pidcock has had an impressive season bu now faces an injury recovery &#8211;  (Belga\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>British rider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/tom-pidcock\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Tom Pidcock<\/a> has been withdrawn from the Volta a Catalunya following injuries sustained in a horror crash during the fifth stage on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Pidcock went off the road after misjudging a corner, hurtling down a ravine and admitted he was lucky to still be able to talk into his radio so that he could be found.<\/p>\n<p>Although the Pinarello-Q36.5 rider was able to get back on his bike and complete the stage, after medical assessments with his team and also at hospital, it was determined Pidcock could not resume the race.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to his crash he suffered injuries, most likely bone and ligament damage in particular to his right knee and also right wrist,\u201d Pinarello-Q36.5\u2019s chief medical team doctor Lorenz Emmert said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately we had to make the decision to take him out of the race. Further clinical evaluation and imaging will follow in the next days additionally to the already-initiated healing process.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pidcock, a two-time Olympic cross-country mountain bike champion, is now set to remain under close observation in the coming days as further evaluations take place.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/SEI289970600.jpeg\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"\/>Tom Pidcock won Milano-Torino earlier this month (AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>Describing the crash, the 26-year-old said: \u201cI was drinking on the descent and misjudged a corner. I am lucky I could talk on the radio. I was far from the road and nobody knew I was there. 60km\/h off a mountain road and I\u2019m relatively OK.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe did everything to try to make it to the start (of Saturday\u2019s stage six), but it\u2019s not possible. I fought to finish the stage yesterday to make sure I had the option to continue.
