The good news: There are no concerns for consumer safety, and supply is not affected. Thank you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The heist has become a viral sensation \u2014 with the Kit Kat statement alone racking up 87 million views and tens of thousands of retweets.<\/p>\n<p>One reply brought up the old anti-music piracy ad campaign: \u2018You wouldn\u2019t steal 12T of Kit Kats\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Others joked that they had no idea what happened to the candy bars \u2014 but suggesting they had suddenly come into a huge supply of chocolate.<\/p>\n<p>Nestl\u00e9 says the product\u2019s unique batch codes assigned to individual bars could help them identify the stolen candy bars if they make their way into stores via the black market, but said so far \u201cthe vehicle and its load are still nowhere to be found.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If a match is found, \u201cthe scanner will be given clear instructions on how to alert KitKat who will then share the evidence appropriately,\u201d it said.<\/p>\n<p>The Vevey, Switzerland-based company has taken a lighthearted approach to the theft, as the international publicity blitz following the theft likely far exceeds the approximately $400,000 value of the shipment (assuming $.99 per bar retail value.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhilst we appreciate the criminals\u2019 exceptional taste, the fact remains that cargo theft is an escalating issue for businesses of all sizes,\u201d KitKat said in a statement to AP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith more sophisticated schemes being deployed on a regular basis, we have chosen to go public with our own experience in the hope that it raises awareness of an increasingly common criminal trend,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n<p>KitKats are a beloved confection the world over, made of sweet wafers covered in chocolate and divided into four \u201cfingers\u201d that can be snapped apart (or not) before consuming.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"So far the thieves have made a clean break.
