Starmind’s technology, which identifies which employees hold undocumented organizational knowledge, will be integrated into Capacity’s platform.

For years, companies have invested in documenting knowledge across wikis, intranets, and knowledge bases. With the rise of generative AI, this documented knowledge has become more accessible than ever. Yet a fundamental problem remains: a large share of the most critical knowledge in organizations is never written down, and for AI systems, what is not documented simply does not exist.

Founded in 2010, Starmind helps large organizations surface expertise that exists in people’s heads but never makes it into documents or databases. Its AI infers who knows what inside a company and routes queries to the right person. The company counts several large corporations among its customers, including Pepsico, Roche and Accenture.

“Enterprises don’t fail because they lack documents. They fail because they can’t reach the people who actually know,” said Marc Vontobel, CEO of Starmind. “Starmind has spent 16 years making undocumented knowledge accessible.”

Capacity, founded in 2017 and headquartered in the United States, acquired Starmind. Capacity offers an AI-powered support automation platform. More than 20,000 companies including 3M, Disney, American Express and Sony use Capacity for external customer support and internal employee enablement. Capacity has marked significant growth in 2025 and is now profitable with $60 million of annual recurring revenue. The company has raised more than $155 million in both equity and debt. This acquisition extends Capacity’s offering beyond documented knowledge to include what the company calls “living, human expertise.”

“Our mission has always been to help teams do their best work by simplifying how organizations support customers and employees,” said David Karandish, CEO of Capacity. “By bringing Starmind into Capacity, we’re strengthening the knowledge foundation behind every customer and employee interaction.”

(Press release / AJ)

Swiss AI pioneer Starmind has been acquired by US-based support automation platform Capacity.
