Sophomore Will Thigpen is helping lead the way for the Knights on and off the diamond

Thigpen pitches and plays in the outfield. He wants to develop as a pitcher<\/p>\n
The Knights are a young team with only three seniors. There are a lot of freshmen on this year\u2019s team and even a few eighth graders getting their first taste of varsity experience.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe season’s been pretty good so far. We’ve really had solid pitching, really good defense. They’ve worked hard. They’re consistent with their routine. And we’re seeing some of the fruits pay off,\u201d Geneva School baseball coach Bob Down said. \u201cThey’re a bunch of ninth graders, and we expect them to grow.\u201d<\/p>\n
One of the leaders on this year\u2019s team is sophomore Will Thigpen. He is a three-sport athlete playing football and basketball as well, but baseball is where he sees his future.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve played baseball all my life. I just take it real slow and have peace of mind. I love pitching and I really want to develop as a pitcher,\u201d Thigpen said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe’s going to get stronger. He’s only in 10th grade. We’ll see how he does and how he progresses. The big thing about Will is he’s a really,\u00a0really good baseball player. But he’s just a great kid, rock-solid kid. And that’s what we love, that his leadership really helps the ninth graders. We’re really blessed to have him,\u201d Down said.<\/p>\n
He is in just his second year on varsity pitching and playing in the outfield. On the mound, he\u2019s had a dominant season while hitting the cover off the ball at the plate.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe’ve had a lot of older players leave and a lot of younger guys come up. I\u2019ve been working really hard and have always been a leader in my life,\u201d Thigpen said.<\/p>\n
