Dozens of community members took to the streets for the town\u2019s annual Good Friday Cross Walk, carrying a cross through the city as a symbol of remembrance, faith, and unity.<\/p>\n
Step by step, participants made their way through Geneva, marking the day Christians believe Jesus Christ was crucified. The walk, which spans nearly five miles, serves as the culmination of Holy Week events and brings together people from all walks of life.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is Good Friday\u2026 it\u2019s good for us if we\u2019re followers of Christ. Not so good for Jesus\u2014that\u2019s the day he had to carry the cross,\u201d said Pastor and Geneva Ministerial Association President James Red Coleman. \u201cAnd so we do this in remembrance of what he did for us.\u201d<\/p>\n

Coleman says the event highlights the strength of the local faith community, with multiple denominations coming together for one purpose.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s really a gathering of followers of Christ in our community\u2026 Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, non-denominational\u2014we\u2019ve got everybody here,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
From church leaders to families to local officials, the event continues to draw support year after year.<\/p>\n
Geneva Mayor David Hayes says the walk represents more than just tradition\u2014it\u2019s about unity.<\/p>\n
\u201cAny day we can come together and put differences aside for one cause\u2014that\u2019s special. That\u2019s what today is about,\u201d Hayes said.<\/p>\n
For many, carrying the cross offers a deeper perspective on the meaning of the day.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen you carry it, you start to realize\u2026 this is nothing compared to what Jesus went through. It\u2019s an honor,\u201d Hayes added.<\/p>\n
Along the route, drivers honked in support, while others stopped to watch\u2014and even join in.<\/p>\n
The walk is a meaningful tradition for friends and families and helped shaped their faith over the years.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt really shows what we stand for\u2026 seeing all these people come together\u2014it\u2019s amazing,\u201d one family member said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s every parent\u2019s dream to see your kids grow up in the Lord\u2026 it means everything,\u201d another added.<\/p>\n
Organizers say the goal goes beyond the walk itself, using the moment to share a message of faith and connection across the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt gives us an opportunity to share the gospel\u2026 and bring people together,\u201d Coleman said.<\/p>\n
A message of unity, faith, and purpose\u2014carried through the streets of Geneva.<\/p>\n
