For many car and van owners, that means making an insurance claim when huge bills for repairs suddenly hit them, or worse still an accident occurs. The holes are also a potentially fatal hazard for cyclists, or motorcycle riders, and it’s surely time for cycling/biker activist groups to combine resources and sue a Council in test case for criminal negligence, which will hopefully result in someone being jailed – as they would be in the private sector – for causing death by ignoring well established safety and road repair rules.

Here’s the word from Alps;

Alps, a leading MGA specialising in insurance add-on policies, legal expenses, and claims solutions for intermediaries, is pleased to announce the launch of an innovative new pothole add-on insurance product for brokers. The product is designed to address the growing financial impact of road defects on UK motorists.

The scale of the issue continues to rise. According to the RAC there were 225 pothole-related vehicle breakdowns per day in February 2026, and a total of 26,048 incidents recorded in 2025. These incidents frequently result in costly damage to suspension systems, wheels, and shock absorbers. Market data also suggests that the average repair bill for pothole damage stands at £460, with the total cost to UK drivers estimated at approximately £1.7bn.

Alps’s new pothole solution has been developed in response to this increasing demand for protection, offering drivers practical, affordable cover and greater peace of mind. The policy provides up to £2,000 of cover for pothole related damage across a wide range of vehicles including private cars, motorcycles, commercial vehicles, and motorhomes up to 3.5 tonnes. Cover includes:

£200 per tyre
£250 per wheel
£150 for wheel alignment
£500 for suspension damage
£250 for damage to bodywork, paint and headlights.

Delivered in partnership with Strategic Insurance Services Ltd, and underwritten by Collinson, the policy offers premiums from as little as £60, with a low excess of just £50.

Michelle O’Reilly, Managing Director at Alps, commented: “We’re delighted to launch this product exclusively for brokers. With the number of potholes continuing to rise across the UK, it’s more important than ever for vehicle owners to protect themselves against the rising cost of repairs. While standard motor insurance policies often cover pothole damage, policyholders can face increased premiums at renewal, loss of their no-claim discount, and high excess payments. Our add-on solution addresses these challenges by providing targeted, affordable cover that helps keep drivers on the road.”

Like this:

Like Loading…

Related

The pothole menace continues to grow as the UK Govt, regional governments and Councils all fail to maintain…

[16
50,25892,25893,25894,966
post-45031","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-alps","tag-alps","tag-alps-broker","tag-can-you-buy","tag-pothole-insurance","tag-special
["GET
