JEFFERSON OH- \u00a0A pair of 2-run innings would give Jefferson enough of a boost to outpace Geneva in a 4-2, low-scoring affair on Wednesday night to remain undefeated on the season.<\/p>\n
Logan Padgett for Jefferson and Brendon Fobell for Geneva found themselves in a pitcher\u2019s duel early, dealing back-and-forth as the game was still in a scoreless stalemate after 3 innings.<\/p>\n
Devin Salinas would bring an end to the scoreless affair as he would deliver an RBI single in the bottom of the 4th to get Jefferson on the board first before Joey Sands would steal home in the following at-bat to give the Falcons a 2-0 edge.<\/p>\n
Brendon Fobell would get a run back in the top of the 6th with an RBI single to center field that would get Geneva on the board and cut the lead in half late. But the Falcons would respond in the bottom of the 6th, earning some insurance on a double from Mason Kalil and a sacrifice fly from Michael Riffle to expand the Jefferson lead to 4-1.<\/p>\n
Ryland Besco would begin a late rally for the Eagles by double and tacking on an RBI in the top of the 7th to cut the lead to 4-2, but it would be Nate Hutchens of Jefferson who would slam the door shut on the Geneva rally by striking out the final 2 batters on the mound and sealing the win for the Falcons.<\/p>\n
Logan Padgett earned the win for Jefferson, allowing only 3 hits and 1 run over 5.1 innings of work, striking out 7 Eagles on the night. Fobell went 3.1 innings for Geneva, surrendering 2 runs on only 4 hits, striking out 6.<\/p>\n
Devin Salinas, Michael Riffle, and Mason Kalil each drove in a run for Jefferson, with Kalil going 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Ryland Besco led Geneva with a 2-for-3 showing, tallying a double as well as 1 of the 2 Eagles\u2019 runs on the night.<\/p>\n
Jefferson (5-0) remains perfect through the first few games of the season, while Geneva (0-2) still looks to get in the win column after a slow start to the new campaign.
