A man died in the hospital from serious injuries after being hit by an SUV on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh early Tuesday morning, according to police.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Raleigh Police officers responded to a pedestrian crash around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on New Bern Avenue near King William Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police said 57-year-old Alonzo Hinton had life-threatening injuries when they arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n
Antonio Dickens, 44, the driver of the SUV that hit the man was not hurt and is cooperating with police. Police said Dickens struck Hinton as he crossed a section of New Bern Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n
While officers investigated the incident, they found signs of impairment from Dickens.\u00a0The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation<\/p>\n
Dickens was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.\u00a0<\/p>\n

At least 10 Raleigh Police units were on the scene with police tape blocking off about a quarter mile of New Bern Avenue between King William Road and Donald Ross Drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Officers were investigating a black SUV with damage to the front bumper and a shattered windshield.
