{"id":49681,"date":"2026-04-16T02:43:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-16T02:43:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/49681\/"},"modified":"2026-04-16T02:43:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-16T02:43:49","slug":"man-dead-after-being-hit-by-suv-on-new-bern-avenue-in-raleigh-wral-com","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/49681\/","title":{"rendered":"Man dead after being hit by SUV on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh :: WRAL.com"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A man died in the hospital from serious injuries after being hit by an SUV on New Bern Avenue in Raleigh early Tuesday morning, according to police.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Raleigh Police officers responded to a pedestrian crash around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday on New Bern Avenue near King William Road.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Police said 57-year-old Alonzo Hinton had life-threatening injuries when they arrived on the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Antonio Dickens, 44, the driver of the SUV that hit the man was not hurt and is cooperating with police. Police said Dickens struck Hinton as he crossed a section of New Bern Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While officers investigated the incident, they found signs of impairment from Dickens.\u00a0The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation<\/p>\n<p>Dickens was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The WRAL Breaking News Tracker arrived to the scene around 1:45 a.m. <\/p>\n<p>At least 10 Raleigh Police units were on the scene with police tape blocking off about a quarter mile of New Bern Avenue between King William Road and Donald Ross Drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officers were investigating a black SUV with damage to the front bumper and a shattered windshield.
