{"id":51309,"date":"2026-04-19T01:25:47","date_gmt":"2026-04-19T01:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/51309\/"},"modified":"2026-04-19T01:25:47","modified_gmt":"2026-04-19T01:25:47","slug":"15th-annual-fun-bun-run-5k-in-geneva-supports-group-helping-haitians-shaw-local","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/51309\/","title":{"rendered":"15th annual Fun Bun Run 5K in Geneva supports group helping Haitians \u2013 Shaw Local"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">Runners will hit the streets of downtown <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/tags\/geneva\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/tags\/geneva\/\">Geneva<\/a> to raise funds to help around 200 children receive a better education in Haiti.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">The 15th annual Fun Bun Run 5K for Education, hosted by the nonprofit Hope for Haitians, takes place 8:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, outside the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/kane-county-chronicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.shawlocal.com\/kane-county-chronicle\/\">Kane County<\/a> Government Center, 719 S, Batavia Ave,, Geneva.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">You can register and donate to the charity by visiting, <a href=\"https:\/\/funbunrun.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/funbunrun.org\/\">FunBunRun.org<\/a>. All winners in each age category will receive a medal handmade in Haiti.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">The organization has been building homes and providing educational opportunities for people in Haiti since 2001. Since its founding, Hope for Haitians has helped build 860 homes, housing 4,935 people. (Sean King for Shaw Media) <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">The group also provides food and medical services to villages in rural Haiti.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">\u201cWe all know the key is education,\u201d Karen Dix of Hope for Haitians said. \u201cWe have built schools and provide scholarships for families. All the money raised at the race goes directly to education. Sponsors take care of the expenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">The family-fun event features both on-site and virtual races for participants from across the country.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">With legacies of colonialism and slavery, civil violence and hurricane and earthquake destruction, Haiti has remained the poorest country in the western hemisphere.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">Close to two-thirds of Haiti\u2019s 12 million population lives below the poverty line, including around 25% in extreme poverty, according to the International Monetary Fund.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The 15th annual &#x201C;Fun Bun Run&#x201D; 5K for Education is being hosted by the non-profit Hope for Haitians in Geneva.\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/LOIK44XMK5DTTK2ECW2GB2SE44.JPEG\" width=\"1440\" height=\"0\" loading=\"lazy\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"ImageMetadata__MetadataParagraph-sc-1gn0vty-0 ijEZZk image-metadata\">The 15th annual Fun Bun Run 5K for Education is being hosted by the nonprofit Hope for Haitians in Geneva. (Photo Provided By Hope For Haitians)<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">\u201cFor children in rural Haiti born into families living in desperate poverty, education may be their best hope for a future,\u201d the organization said on its website. \u201cFunds raised pay for school fees, books, materials and others essentials needed to learn.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-xb1qmn-0 gBIiEi body-paragraph\">The charity also provides clothing, transportation, meal programs and tuition aid to Haitian students.
