Following a 5-0 shelling of Czechia<\/a> to open their 2026 Winter Olympics tournament, the Canadian men’s hockey team get right back at it today, taking on Switzerland at 3:10 p.m. EST\/12:10 p.m. PST.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s always significant when Team Canada takes the ice in Olympic hockey, but these 2026 Games promise to be more special than usual as its the first time since the 2014 Games in Sochi that NHL players are back playing in the Olympics, making this the most high stakes best-on-best hockey tournament in 12 years.<\/p>\n

Naturally, with NHLers back in the fold, Canada\u2019s roster is a stacked one, led by the dynamic centre trio of captain Sidney Crosby (Pittsburgh Penguins), Connor McDavid (Edmonton Oilers) and Nathan MacKinnon (Colorado Avalanche), who boast a combined six Hart Memorial Trophies (NHL MVP) between the three of them.<\/p>\n

On Switzerland’s side, it features a number of talented NHL players including Nico Hischier and Timo Meier (both of the New Jersey Devils) and Roman Josi (Nashville Predators).<\/p>\n

Meier scored twice in Switzerland’s impressive-looking 4-0 victory over France to open its Olympics Thursday.<\/p>\n

There have been five previous Olympic hockey tournaments where NHL players were allowed. Canada has won three of them, including the last two in a row in 2010 and 2014.<\/p>\n

Playing this tournament in a Group A that also features Czechia and France, a win against Switzerland Friday almost absolutely assures Canada wins the group and gets more favourable seeding heading into the knockout round.<\/p>\n

Ahead of Canada’s game with Switzerland, head coach Jon Cooper made some tweaks to the roster.<\/p>\n

Thirty-seven-year-old Brad Marchand has been drawn out of the lineup on the second game of a back-to-back with Seth Jarvis taking his place at left wing on the Bo Horvat-centred fourth line.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Canadian defenceman Josh Morrissey, who left Thursday’s game in the second period with an apparent injury and didn’t return, is out of the lineup. Travis Sanheim has been drawn in his place as the team’s seventh defenceman. Shea Theodore is moving up to pair with Colton Parayko.<\/p>\n

Lastly, after recording a 26-save shutout Thursday, Jordan Binnington has been given the day off Friday. Logan Thompson will get Canada’s net against Switzerland.<\/p>\n
