Whilst a few names struggled, Giulio Pellizzari took the stage win from a small group; with Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe having plenty riders near the front.

The breakaway of the day was formed by Valentin Poscacher, Luca Verrando, Benjamin Eckerstrorfer, David Paumann, Oliver Stockwell, Emanuel Zangerle, Dominik Röber, Mattia Gaffuri and Davide Bais. The group held a large gap late into the day however the group would struggle to hold off the peloton on the climb to Val Martello (5 kilometers at 9%).

Most of the action waited until the final ascent itself. The pace was very high when the riders entered the final climb, one with almost no turns, making it ideal for a steady pace. Tudor set the early rhythm, breaking the group apart and eventually Thymen Arensman launched an attack with Storer and Lorenzo Finn following him.

Domenico Pozzovivo set the pace behind but it was a constant climb, and with 3.5 kilometer to go Giulio Pellizzari jumped from behind and into the main group. Within a matter of seconds, the Italian attacked the Arensman group, with Michael Storer getting dropped.

Egan Bernal joined the then duo in chase of Pellizzari, who joined Mattia Gaffuri with 2 kilometers to go; and with 1.4 to go the work of Bernal saw the two up front get caught. Aleksandr Vlasov jumped from behind and managed to close the gap to the group with 800 meters to go on the top of the climb, going across directly.

Egan Bernal closed the gap, sacrificing his chances of taking the win; and in the final sprint it was Giulio Pellizzari who sprinted to victory, taking also the race lead. He beat Thymen Arensman and Mattia Gaffuri to the line.

[16
50,88,28943,29544,3552,28942,25686
post-52952","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-alps","tag-alps","tag-cycling","tag-giulio-pellizzari","tag-red-bull-bora-hansgrohe","tag-results","tag-thymen-arensman","tag-tour-of-the-alps
["GET
