The company said it expects the global cobot market to grow by 20% annually through 2028.

The PoWa family is intended to address a gap between traditional cobots and conventional industrial robots. Traditional cobots may not provide the speed or payload needed for some industrial applications, while conventional industrial robots are often used in larger-scale, specialized automation environments.

PoWa adds to ABB Robotics’ cobot portfolio with six payload options ranging from 7 kg to 30 kg. The company said the family offers long reach, high arm load capacity and top speeds of up to 5.8 m/s.*

The cobots are designed for compact environments and applications such as machine tending, palletizing, screwdriving and arc welding. ABB said PoWa is intended for processes that require higher payloads and speeds while retaining the flexibility and compact size associated with collaborative robots.

ABB said PoWa cobots are designed for ease of use, with programmable buttons on the arm-side interface, no-code programming and compatibility with third-party accessories. The company said the system can be unboxed and put into operation within an hour and supports plug-and-play integration with a range of tools.

The PoWa cobots use ABB’s OmniCore controller platform. ABB said the platform provides motion control, speed and precision, and that the robots can be integrated with software including RobotStudio and Wizard Easy Programming for programming and deployment.

ABB said the PoWa family is part of its broader effort to develop more autonomous and versatile robotics. According to the company, this includes robots designed to be more flexible, adaptive and collaborative in a wider range of applications.

* Speed of PoWa 10 and PoWa 13

For more information, visit go.abb/robotics.

Filed Under: Robotics • robotic grippers • end effectors
Tagged With: abb, abbrobotics

ABB Robotics has introduced its new PoWa cobot family to the collaborative robot market.
