The Zurich Classic stands out as one of the most distinctive tournaments on the PGA Tour calendar each year.<\/p>\n
It has been a turbulent few weeks in the golfing world, from Rory McIlroy’s<\/a> historic back-to-back triumph at the Masters to Matt Fitzpatrick’s dramatic playoff victory over Scottie Scheffler at the RBC Heritage, and now speculation is mounting about LIV Golf’s potential collapse due to a lack of funding.<\/p>\n While the future of the Saudi Arabia-backed circuit remains uncertain, some of golf’s biggest names traveled to the Big Easy this week for the Zurich Classic, the PGA Tour’s<\/a> only team-based competition of the year. It comes after the PGA Tour forced to make Zurich Classic rule change after rain delay<\/a><\/p>\n This week’s event featured some intriguing pairings at TPC Louisiana, including brothers Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick, who came in as favorites to claim the trophy, along with Shane Lowry partnering with Brooks Koepka.<\/p>\n The structure of the Zurich Classic more closely resembles that of the Ryder Cup than what fans usually witness on the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland (Image: Photo by Jonathan Bachman\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n The opening and third rounds are four-balls, where each golfer plays their own ball throughout the hole, with the superior score of the pair recorded on the scorecard.<\/p>\n During the second and fourth rounds, the teams compete in foursomes, also referred to as alternate shot, where the partners take turns hitting the same ball until it is holed. While it may not be the most prestigious event on the PGA Tour, the Zurich Classic embodies the spirit of team golf that fans typically only witness at the Ryder Cup or Presidents Cup. It even inspired Rory McIlroy to belt out a joyful karaoke performance after claiming the 2024 title alongside Lowry.<\/p>\n The Zurich Classic purse stands at $9.5 million, ranking as the 20th largest purse out of 45 PGA Tour events in 2026, including the four major championships, FedEx Cup playoffs, and FedEx Cup Fall tournaments.<\/p>\n That figure represents just under half of the $20 million total purse available at each of the PGA Tour’s eight Signature Events.<\/p>\n The victorious team at the Zurich Classic will pocket the top prize of $1,372,750, equating to 14.45 percent of the total purse. Unlike standard PGA Tour events, the winning team in New Orleans must divide the prize money, meaning each player on the first-place team will walk away with $686,375.<\/p>\n Any team finishing alone in second place will earn $560,500, third place $366,937.50, fourth place $308,750, and fifth place $268,375.<\/p>\n Beyond the top five, the prize money for each of the remaining top-10 finishers breaks down as follows: 6th ($230,375), 7th ($192,375), 8th ($168,625), 9th ($149,625), and 10th ($130,625).<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the team finishing in 33rd \u2013 last place among those who made the cut – will depart with just $19,855.
