Pakistan depends on Qatar for the vast majority of its LNG imports. In 2025, the nation brought in 6.57 million metric tons of LNG from Qatar, compared to a total of 6.63 million metric tons, according to S&P Global Energy CERA figures. The remainder originated from Nigeria.

The April 24 document from Pakistan LNG indicated that TotalEnergies Gas & Power submitted a bid for the April 27-30 delivery window at $18.88 per MMBtu. For the cargo slated for May 1-7, Vitol Bahrain offered $18.54 per MMBtu. The May 8-14 shipment drew bids from Vitol at $18.74 per MMBtu and OQ Trading at $17.997 per MMBtu.

On April 24, Vitol and TotalEnergies chose not to comment, while OQ Trading did not reply to an inquiry.

Spot LNG prices surged following the initiation of attacks by the United States and Israel against Iran on February 28. Platts, a unit of S&P Global Energy, recorded the JKM benchmark—which tracks LNG deliveries to Northeast Asia—at a recent high of $25.41 per MMBtu on March 19, climbing from $10.70 per MMBtu on February 27. Values have since moderated, with Platts assessing the JKM at $17.13 per MMBtu on April 24.

During a televised address on April 16, Power Minister Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari stated that Pakistan might contemplate spot LNG acquisitions as the nation contends with a daily power deficit, linked to the shutdown of regasified LNG-fueled power stations.

 1.
