Under this agreement, the commodity trading firm may purchase the facility’s entire output and could also consider taking an equity stake in the venture.

The liquefied natural gas project, fully owned by Camuzzi, is located at the Port of La Plata in Buenos Aires Province, according to the source.

The initiative is expected to require $3.9 billion (5.52 trillion pesos) in investment spread over 20 years. It is designed to serve a dual role: supporting LNG exports while increasing domestic supply during periods of peak demand in Argentina.

The project will use infrastructure connected to the Vaca Muerta shale formation in the Neuquén Basin. It aims to export more than 2.4 million tonnes per annum of LNG, equivalent to over nine million cubic metres of natural gas daily.

Construction is scheduled to begin this year, with operations planned to start in 2028. Alejandro Macfarlane, president of Camuzzi Gas Inversora, stated that the project is expected to create 500 direct jobs and contribute more than $14.5 billion in foreign currency from LNG exports over its 20 years of operation.

The initial phase involves building new transportation links to route gas from Buchanan to Ensenada in Buenos Aires Province. Plans also include a 10-kilometre underwater pipeline and an offshore platform for mooring the liquefaction vessel.

In a separate agreement signed in February 2026, Eni, YPF, and ADNOC‘s international investment division, XRG, entered into a binding joint development agreement for the Argentina LNG project. That initiative aims to utilise gas resources from the Vaca Muerta basin to establish Argentina as a significant player in the international LNG market.

 1.
