(WITN) &#8211; A national nonprofit that builds accessible housing for veterans is working in Eastern North Carolina to put up new homes for those in need.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Purple Heart Homes has partnered with Lock Lane Construction and Evergreen CLT, all based in Statesville, to put up homes in New Bern that will be accessible to disabled or aging veterans. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt\u2019s the upmost importance. It\u2019s a bad nation that does not look after the people that watched over them,\u201d Iredell County\u2019s State Representative Jeff McNeely says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Veterans can purchase the home for half of the appraised value, according to CEO John Gallina. He says the other half is a gift to them over the course of five years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter if you served in Vietnam or if you served in peace time, the fact of the matter is, if you need a home, we\u2019ve got a quality home right here that has your name on it,\u201d Gallina told WITN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Their newest project is two three-bedroom, single family homes off Washington Post Road. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere\u2019s a lot of veterans in this area, and I\u2019m sure they have a lot of need as well, so it\u2019s really awesome to be a part of something that\u2019s so much bigger than building a house,\u201d Project Manager Mikayla Warren says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As a veteran himself, Craven County\u2019s State Representative Steve Tyson says looking out for those who have served is always on the forefront of his mind. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re going to always take care of our veterans. We like to think of ourselves as the number one state in the nation when it comes to caring for veterans,\u201d Tyson told WITN.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The homes are set to be completed in the late summer of 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Veterans can apply to live at Purple Heart Homes <a href=\"https:\/\/www.purplehearthomesusa.org\/application-for-assistance\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.purplehearthomesusa.org\/application-for-assistance\/\">here<\/a>.
