NEW BERN, N.C. (WITN) – From the sound of rapid slides and ferris wheels to the smell of candy apples, all signs point toward a weekend of fun in store for New Bern. <\/p>\n
Mary Kinney lives near where all the action will happen and looks forward to seeing it unfold this weekend. <\/p>\n
\u201cWatching the kids and just seeing neighbors, new people, people are just happy. You just see them having a fun time,\u201d Kinney said. <\/p>\n
Kinney grew up going to the festival and has enjoyed watching it evolve. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019ve seen an improvement in vendors coming this year. Last year, there were not as many, but it\u2019s more upbeat this time, and there are more bands,\u201d Kinney said. <\/p>\n
Carolina SeniorCare brought its participants to Union Point Park to take group pictures before the large crowds take to the streets. <\/p>\n
Supervisor Liesel Caten says she loves how unifying the festival is. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is kind of like a bright spot with everything so dark and heavy in the world. It\u2019s just that reminder that this is what life is truly about. Coming together and enjoying the community, celebrating the good things, even if it\u2019s something as small as a mum,\u201d Caten said. <\/p>\n
Rain or shine, MumFest is expecting well over 200 vendors to fill the streets for a fun-packed weekend. <\/p>\n
The WITN First Alert Weather Team says rain is expected to arrive Saturday, with winds picking up throughout the weekend. <\/p>\n
