It was a mass exodus out of the Amazon. \u201cI heard there was a fire on the third floor and then it spread to the fourth floor,\u201d said Melanie Lovell, an Amazon employee. Firefighters from Berks and Schuylkill counties responded to a fire at the Amazon warehouse in Upper Bern Township Friday morning.<\/p>\n

Firefighters were dispatched around 9 a.m. to the warehouse in the 3500 block of Mountain Road for a reported structure fire.<\/p>\n

All employees were later sent home.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs far as I know there was a pipe burst going on. They basically told us to sit outside for a while and leave early,\u201d said employee Griffin Betts.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got here as everyone was evacuating the building,\u201d Lovell said. \u201cI heard there was smoke and sprinklers so everyone was just rushed out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Employee say a similar incident occurred Thursday.<\/p>\n

\u201cYesterday, same thing happened. Sprinklers, smoke and we were all evacuated. It seemed like everything was okay though, so we were put back in the building. Just a little bit of a smell. Nothing too bad.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amazon provided a statement, thanking first responders and saying they\u2019re working with investigators to determine a cause and keep employees informed as to when operations will resume. The Pennsylvania State Police fire marshal was called to the scene to investigate.<\/p>\n
