\u00a0Swiss drugmaker Roche has received the CE mark \u2013 a European \u200bregulatory clearance allowing sale in the \u200cregion \u2013 for its second Elecsys blood test for Alzheimer\u2019s disease, it said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

The \u200btest was developed with U.S. company \u200bEli Lilly\u00a0(LLY.N).<\/p>\n

Compared with its\u00a0already approved<\/a>\u00a0pTau181 \u2060test, which mainly helps rule out \u200bAlzheimer\u2019s-related amyloid pathology, the newer pTau217 test \u200bcan both help confirm and exclude the disease. It is validated for use in both \u200bprimary and specialist care.<\/p>\n

The test has \u200balready received breakthrough device designation from the U.S. \u200cFDA.<\/p>\n

Blood \u2060tests could speed diagnosis and widen access to treatments such as Biogen\u00a0(BIIB.O)\u00a0and Eisai\u2019s\u00a0(4523.T)\u00a0Leqembi and Eli Lilly\u2019s Kisunla, \u200bas current \u200bdiagnostic methods \u2060are often costly or uncomfortable.<\/p>\n

Roche said an estimated 75% \u200bof people living with dementia remain \u200bundiagnosed.<\/p>\n

The \u2060test is expected to become available in CE-marked markets from July, Olivier Gillieron, life \u2060cycle \u200bleader in cardiometabolic and \u200bneurology at Roche told media in a call.<\/p>\n
