A husband who murdered his beauty pageant finalist wife and\u00a0blended her\u00a0remains has been locked up for life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n
Mum-of-two Kristina Joksimovic, 38,\u00a0was killed at home in Switzerland<\/a>\u00a0following an argument with her husband, Marc Rieben,\u00a043.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The depraved\u00a0businessman, who shared two young daughters with\u00a0Ms\u00a0Joksimovic, then used\u00a0a jigsaw, a knife and garden scissors to dismember her body inside the family home before using a blender on her body parts. <\/p>\n Rieben left her\u00a0remains\u00a0for\u00a0Ms\u00a0Joksimovic\u2019s dad to find\u00a0following the February 2024 murder that shook the country and put Switzerland\u2019s domestic violence epidemic<\/a> in the spotlight. <\/p>\n \t\t Now Rieben has been jailed for life\u00a0for the sadistic killing in\u00a0Binningen\u00a0near Basel<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Ms\u00a0Joksimovic\u00a0is said to have told her husband she wants a divorce<\/a> along with\u00a0financial support and custody of their children before her murder. <\/p>\n Prosecutors said Rieben acted knowingly and intentionally, and in full awareness of his actions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Chilling details from the trial revealed how Rieben studied\u00a0the\u00a0Atlas\u00a0of Human Anatomy to teach himself how to dismember his wife\u2019s body.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Anina Hofer, the lawyer for\u00a0Ms\u00a0Joksimovic\u2019s parents, read their heartbreaking statement in court: \u2018I stand here today in court as a mother who has lost her daughter. Whose children miss their mummy every day.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u2018She was loving, protective of her children, and gave them everything. But it can show that her life matters.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Rieben was ordered to pay around \u00a394,600\u00a0to the couple\u2019s two daughters, now aged five and six, and over \u00a3264,000\u00a0to\u00a0Ms\u00a0Joksimovic\u2019s family,\u00a0Daily Mail<\/a>\u00a0reports.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n A group of protesters had gathered outside the court building in\u00a0Muttenz, with extra police officers brought in as Judge Daniel Schmid\u00a0sentenced Rieben. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The judge said: \u2018There are cases that make fiction become reality. This case has changed our reality.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u2018No court ruling can fill the void left by the loss of a loved one. We as a court will also never forget you and will carry you in our hearts.\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n Mr\u00a0Joksimovic suffered an \u2018agonising\u2019 death as her husband punched,\u00a0kicked\u00a0and strangled her \u2018\u2019in cold blood,\u2019 prosecutors said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n He then\u00a0tried to dispose of her body using the tools and bleach before the blender.<\/p>\n Rieben said he acted in self-defence after his wife allegedly threatened him with a knife during the argument, but\u00a0the\u00a0prosecutor, citing\u00a0evidence from the forensic report,\u00a0said \u2018there was never a knife attack.\u2019 \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The prosecutor said: \u2018The man\u2019s\u00a0behaviour\u00a0after the\u00a0crime<\/a>\u00a0was almost beyond belief in its cruelty and absurdity.<\/p>\n \u2018The man\u00a0acted systematically and with a plan; his\u00a0behaviour\u00a0demonstrated\u00a0the full extent of his hatred for his wife.\u2019\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n An expert at the trial,\u00a0professor\u00a0Frank Urbaniok, said he had diagnosed Rieben with narcissistic traits and an obsessive-compulsive disorder.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n He said Rieben acted with \u2018meticulous\u00a0precision,\u2019\u00a0and how after the murder, he had gone to have dinner with the couple\u2019s two children pretending nothing had happened.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The professor said he has \u2018never seen anything like this before\u2019 during his over\u00a030 years of\u00a0experience spanning 5,000 cases.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The couple\u2019s eldest daughter, who was\u00a0four at the time, told the police their dad is \u2018lying\u2019\u00a0when the\u00a0detectives\u00a0first\u00a0told\u00a0the children\u00a0that their mum had died, their dad was responsible\u00a0and that he\u00a0said he\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0do it on purpose.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The children now live with their mother\u2019s parents.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n Ms\u00a0Joksimovic, a winner of the Miss Northwest Switzerland title, was a finalist in the Miss Switzerland competition.
