{"id":65781,"date":"2026-05-15T09:30:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:30:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/65781\/"},"modified":"2026-05-15T09:30:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-15T09:30:12","slug":"frame-in-frame-installation-features-rediscovered-swiss-films","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/65781\/","title":{"rendered":"Frame in Frame installation features rediscovered Swiss films"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Designer Christian Herren has curated an installation featuring over 200 rediscovered Swiss experimental films during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/nycxdesign\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NYCxDesign<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/eventsguide\/2026\/05\/frame-in-frame-swiss-design-in-motion-nyc-2026\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Frame in Frame \u2013 Swiss Design in Motion<\/a>, the installation is presented by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eda.admin.ch\/newyork\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consulate General of Switzerland in New York<\/a> and aims to translate the films&#8217; &#8220;rhythmic, rule-based logic&#8221; into an immersive spatial installation that creates a dialogue between <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/design\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">design<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/film\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">film<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Frame in Frame installation was created for NYCxDesign<\/p>\n<p>The recently digitised films explore principles associated with Swiss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/graphics\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">graphic design<\/a>, including modularity, typography and grid systems developed at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/courses\/school\/basel-academy-of-art-and-design-fhnw\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Basel School of Design<\/a> between the 1960s and 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>The wider exhibition features furniture and lighting by Swiss designers, including modular seating by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/panter-tourron\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Panter&amp;Tourron<\/a> alongside shelving structures by <a href=\"https:\/\/officebenganz.com\/#nike-global-2022-campaign\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ben Ganz<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zhdk.ch\/en\/zurich-university-of-the-arts-1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">ZHdK<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/lehni.ch\/en\/home\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lehni<\/a>, which double as projection surfaces for the films.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2327104\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Swiss-image-1_dezeen_2364_col_2-852x1278.jpg\" alt=\"Frame in Frame installation curated by Swiss designer Christian Herren\" width=\"1576\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It was curated by Christian Herren<\/p>\n<p>Artist <a href=\"https:\/\/daancouzijn.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Daan Couzijn<\/a> created the film sequences to interact with the surrounding Swiss furniture and lighting, combining moving image and objects into a single spatial installation.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition also features a sofa by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/vitra\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vitra<\/a>, a bar by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/usm\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">USM<\/a>, a lamp by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smow.com\/susi-ueli-berger\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Susi and Ueli Berger<\/a> and a carpet by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.trixundroberthaussmann.ch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Trix and Robert Haussmann<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2327105 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/Swiss-image2_dezeen_2364_col_0-852x1065.jpg\" alt=\"sculptural projection structures by Ben Ganz\" width=\"1891\" height=\"2364\"   loading=\"lazy\"\/>It features a reconfigured sculptural projection structure by Designer Ben Ganz<\/p>\n<p>Throughout the week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eda.admin.ch\/newyork\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Consulate General of Switzerland<\/a> will host walkthroughs of the exhibition featuring designers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dezeen.com\/tag\/panter-tourron\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Stefano Panterotto<\/a>, Alexis Tourron, Ben Ganz and representatives from ZHdK.<\/p>\n<p>The programme also includes a panel discussion titled <a href=\"https:\/\/swissnex.org\/boston\/event\/bringing-archives-into-the-present\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bringing Archives into the Present: Where We Come From, Where We Are, Where We&#8217;re Going<\/a>, moderated by creative director and editor <a href=\"https:\/\/www.r3-mgmt.com\/artist\/ruba-abu-nimah\/bio\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ruba Abu Nimah<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Christian Herren is an interdisciplinary curator whose work spans exhibitions, creative direction and book production.<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about Frame in Frame on its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.frameinframe.nyc\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The photography is by Matthew Gordon.<\/p>\n<p>Frame in Frame \u2013 Swiss Design in Motion is on show until 20 May at the WSA 180 building in Manhattan.
