The 2026 Geneva Open<\/a> will take place between 17-23 May in Switzerland and sees Novak Djokovic as the defending champion but unlike previous years, he won’t return to play in the tournament in Switzerland.It is the 23rd edition of the traditional Roland Garros warm-up tournament with Hamburg <\/a>also in the same week adorning the schedule. But Geneva has Taylor Fritz, Alexander Bublik, Cameron Norrie, Learner Tien and Casper Ruud among their leading lights.<\/p>\n

Samuel Gill, Head Editor for TennisUpToDate is picking Casper Ruud for glory.<\/p>\n

Taylor Fritz would be a simple option but he hasn’t been great as of late. Albeit he has been dealing with a break up too that can go one of two ways, either it will help him or it’ll be a hinderence.<\/p>\n

I pick Casper Ruud to seal the title but also see good runs for a resurgent at times lately Stefanos Tsitsipas as well as Learner Tien and Alexander Bublik.<\/p>\n

While a number of the big names are going to Hamburg or just skipping the week with Roland Garros just around the corner, numerous big names have made the decision to travel to Switzerland to compete in the Geneva Open.<\/p>\n

On paper, the clear favourite would be three-time champion Casper Ruud. He loves playing at the venue and has enjoyed much success on clay not just in his career, but specifically this year as he gets back to his best. However, I am concerned whether he will show up or not following from taxing runs in Madrid and most recently Rome.<\/p>\n

Away from the three-time Grand Slam finalist, it is rather open and there for the taking. A prime Taylor Fritz would be a heavy favourite but his injury problems and lack of time on the dirt could have huge implications. His mind also may already be on grass.<\/p>\n

Fritz a contender?<\/p>\n

Alexander Bublik loves a good ATP 250 tournament having won seven of them from 13 finals, but consistency is a troubling talking point for the Kazakh. One day he is brilliant, the next he is seldom to be seen. I would count out Learner Tien due to what I have seen of him on clay, not discounting his phenomenal ability on court, while throwing Arthur Rinderknech and Alexei Popyrin as possible outside shouts.<\/p>\n

For the title, totally dependant on if Ruud is not competing, I will pick Cameron Norrie. As a Brit, it is great to see him get back to his best amid a slump in British tennis with that being form or injuries, and he has already shown many signs of challenging with the best. For that reason, I will pick him for a maiden title in Geneva.<\/p>\n

Three-time champion Casper Ruud is my favourite for the title in the Swiss capital, as the tournament\u2019s most successful champion historically, in addition to his great consistency on clay courts. The Norwegian is the sixth seed and, if he does not withdraw due to his deep run in Rome \u2013 where he is in the semi-finals at the moment of this prediction \u2013 he is the player I see in the best condition to take the title.<\/p>\n

It will be the return of Taylor Fritz, but it is his first tournament on clay, and he will be more focused on finding confidence through competitive matches and advancing a couple of rounds. Still, it is difficult to see him as a serious contender on this occasion, despite being the top seed.<\/p>\n

The tournament could be a chance for players such as Learner Tien or Cameron Norrie \u2013 players accustomed to being consistent in the early rounds and who could navigate several rounds to threaten Ruud\u2019s dominance at the tournament. Even more surprising to me would be an interesting run from the South Americans: Alejandro Tabilo and Mariano Navone will be names to watch in the draw.<\/p>\n
