Public trust in law enforcement is essential and when that trust is compromised, accountability must follow.”

Jacon originally was charged by the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance, fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and official misconduct.

Jacon was charged a week after three others were indicted on drug charges, including two members of the city police department, Michael Tapscott and David Felice. Also charged was a member of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges Public Safety, William B. McGowan, who was accused of tampering with physical evidence.

The status of the cases involving Felice and McGowan was not available as of Monday morning.

Tapscott will spend 16 weekends in jail, along with getting five years’ probation, as part of a February plea to multiple drug charges in Ontario County Court.

Callanan, also the special prosecutor in Tapscott’s case, said he agreed to a plea after being indicted on additional drug charges Feb. 19.
