(WITN) &#8211; New Bern\u2019s city flag is flying at half-staff this week to honor fallen police K9 Fredy, who served the community for years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fredy\u2019s death was announced on May 13. Mayor Jeffrey Odham later ordered the city\u2019s flag to fly at half-staff until tomorrow evening in his honor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Fredy worked with the New Bern Police Department for seven years alongside handler Geoffrey Fulton before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2025\/12\/09\/k9-fredy-retires-after-7-years-with-new-bern-police\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.witn.com\/2025\/12\/09\/k9-fredy-retires-after-7-years-with-new-bern-police\/\">retiring in December<\/a> because of medical issues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to the mayor, Fredy helped with more than 150 arrests during his career with the police department.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 WITN.
