A former Geneva police officer who admitted to selling drugs while on duty has been sentenced.<\/p>\n

Michael Tapscott pleaded guilty in February<\/a> to a total of 40 counts against him, including criminal sale of a controlled substance, official misconduct and petit larceny, according to Wayne County District Attorney Christine Callanan\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Tapscott sold Adderall prescribed to him<\/a> to people in the community and sought out prescription painkillers like Vicodin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Tapscott was sentenced to 16 weekends in jail and five years of probation, the DA’s office says. His jail sentence begins on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis case involved a serious breach of the public trust by someone sworn to uphold the law,” said Callanan in a statement. “Michael Tapscott\u2019s actions damaged confidence in law enforcement and diminished the integrity of the badge he once carried. Today\u2019s sentence reflects the principle that no individual is above the law, regardless of position or profession.”<\/p>\n
