GENEVA \u2014 The town of Geneva acquired approximately 75 acres of Kashong Glen with the sale closing January of this year. Town Supervisor Mark Venuti confirmed the closing of the sale at the Feb. 10 Town Board meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Town\u2019s interest at this time is to explore projects that will stabilize the creek bank in areas of excess erosion and filter stormwater to reduce sediment and nutrients flowing into Seneca Lake,\u201d Venuti wrote in his report. \u201cThe Ontario County Soil & Conservation District is interested in assisting in these efforts and has a project that will be implemented this year to stabilize the eroding creek bank on the east side of Route 14.\u201d<\/p>\n
The purchase of this land was partially funded by Finger Lakes Trust from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.<\/p>\n
The town made a $59,348.80 contribution and approved to amend the 2026 budget to transfer $60,000 from an unassigned fund balance \u2014 which sufficient funds to cover the amount \u2014 to the general fund account.<\/p>\n
In other news, the town has schedule a public hearing to consider a proposed local law to override the tax levy limit. The public hearing will be held on March 10, 6 p.m., at Geneva Town Hall, 3750 County Road 6. If enacted, it will enable the town to pass the town budget for fiscal year 2027 which includes funds for town purposes, fire protection, and other special district improvements.<\/p>\n
The town has partnered with the City of Geneva and the Friends of the Geneva Greenway to establish Geneva Greenway, a trail that will with be primarily on or adjacent to an old railroad bed that runs northeast from the city to south west toward the town.<\/p>\n
The city plans to apply for a $2.5 million grant from the New York State, Department of transportation, Transportation Alternatives Program grant.<\/p>\n
