Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi departed for Geneva,
\nSwitzerland, on Sunday at the head of a diplomatic delegation to take part in
\nthe second round of talks with the United States scheduled for next week.<\/p>\n
A statement from the country\u2019s Foreign Ministry noted that
\nAraghchi is expected to meet several international officials, including
\nSwitzerland\u2019s foreign minister, Oman\u2019s foreign minister, and the director
\ngeneral of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), along with other
\nrepresentatives based in Switzerland, to review developments related to the
\nnuclear file and other issues of mutual interest.<\/p>\n
Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign
\nPolicy Committee of Iran\u2019s Islamic Consultative Assembly, said that Iran\u2019s
\nnegotiation team has prepared a package of proposals to present at the Geneva
\ntalks, aiming to speed up discussions and avoid delays.<\/p>\n
According to Iran\u2019s Fars News Agency, Rezaei expressed pessimism about
\nthe potential outcome of the talks, citing \u201cthe previous record and conduct of
\nthe United States.\u201d He added that the forthcoming round would not include any
\ndiscussion on halting or abandoning uranium enrichment, and that the removal of
\nIran\u2019s nuclear stockpiles from the country is not open for negotiation. The
\nUnited States, he said, had previously agreed to these principles during
\nearlier rounds of talks.<\/p>\n
