A DeKalb man was arrested in Geneva last week following a traffic stop and charged with multiple weapons and drug offenses, according to Geneva police.<\/p>\n
On May 25 at around 10:17 p.m. in the 1600 block of West State Street, Geneva police stopped a car driven by Austin Seeley Williams, 20, of DeKalb, for a speeding violation, the Geneva Police Department and city said in a news release Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Police said an officer detected the odor of cannabis coming from inside the vehicle and requested Seeley Williams exit the car.<\/p>\n
Upon Seeley Williams leaving the vehicle, a police officer observed a THC cartridge in plain view, the police department and city said in the news release, which they noted is illegal for Seeley Williams to possess because he is only 20 years old. Additional THC cartridges were located during a search of the vehicle, and a plastic sandwich bag containing a green leafy substance, suspected to be cannabis, as well as a digital scale were found in the car\u2019s glove box, according to the news release.<\/p>\n
During a search of the car\u2019s trunk, a Glock 22, Gen 4, .40 caliber handgun that had been converted to a fully automatic weapon with a \u201cswitch\u201d was also located, as was a loaded high-capacity drum magazine, which was later found to contain around 45 rounds of .40 caliber ammunition, the news release said. A hollow point bullet was also chambered in the handgun, the police department said, and police said that Seeley Williams does not possess a valid Firearm Owner\u2019s Identification, or FOID, card, according to the release.<\/p>\n
Seeley Williams has been charged with a number of weapons- and drug-related offenses, Geneva police said, among them unlawful possession of a machine gun or automatic weapon in a vehicle, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon in a vehicle by a person under 21, manufacturing or delivering more than 10 grams but less than 30 grams of cannabis and unlawful possession of cannabis by a driver.<\/p>\n
Seeley Williams was ordered detained under the Pretrial Fairness Act until his next court date, the news release indicated, and he is currently in custody at the Kane County jail, according to detainee records.
