{"id":80412,"date":"2026-06-09T23:17:09","date_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/80412\/"},"modified":"2026-06-09T23:17:09","modified_gmt":"2026-06-09T23:17:09","slug":"lagos-labour-leader-michael-domingo-dies-in-geneva","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/80412\/","title":{"rendered":"Lagos Labour Leader Michael Domingo Dies in Geneva"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council, Michael Domingo, has died after a brief illness while attending the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.\n<\/p>\n<p>Domingo, a member of Nigeria\u2019s workers\u2019 delegation, reportedly fell ill during the conference and was rushed to a hospital in Annemasse, France, where he died on Monday.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Lagos State Government, through the Head of Service, Bode Agoro, described his death as a painful loss and extended condolences to his family, colleagues and the labour movement.\n<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Tuesday, Agoro said, \u201cThe Lagos State Government commiserates with his family, colleagues, members of the Labour Centres, and workers across Lagos State on this unexpected, painful and irreparable loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Head of Service described the late labour leader as a dedicated unionist who committed his career to advancing the welfare and rights of workers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUntil his passing, Comrade Domingo served as the Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council. He was a delegate of the Lagos State group to the 114th Convention when he reportedly took ill and subsequently passed on,\u201d the statement added. <\/p>\n<p>Agoro said arrangements were underway to repatriate the body to Nigeria.<\/p>\n<p>The Nigeria Labour Congress also confirmed his death, describing it as a major loss to the labour movement.\n<\/p>\n<p>NLC Lagos Chairman, Agnes Sessi, speaking to PUNCH Online on Tuesday, described him as a respected labour leader whose death came as a shock.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDomingo is a very peaceful and well-loved comrade.
