{"id":8114,"date":"2026-02-15T23:30:11","date_gmt":"2026-02-15T23:30:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/8114\/"},"modified":"2026-02-15T23:30:11","modified_gmt":"2026-02-15T23:30:11","slug":"controlled-11-goal-game-from-geneve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/ch\/8114\/","title":{"rendered":"Controlled 11-goal game from Gen\u00e8ve"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Reigning CHL Champions\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/teams\/e407e3c30bba319774cc4bea\/geneve-servette#\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Gen\u00e8ve-Servette<\/a>\u00a0had the comfort of a five-goal buffer and never lost the edge in their 7-4 win over <a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/teams\/7f99e77520c8c86d7a63682a\/lausanne-hc#\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Lausanne HC<\/a>\u00a0in the Return Game of their Round of 16 match-up.<\/p>\n<p>Despite missing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/previews\/2024-25\/all-switzerland-playoff-matchup-between-geneve-servette-and-lausanne#playerId=10f4835758ac29cffb0497da\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Sami Vatanen<\/a>\u00a0and netminder\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/matches\/a18d9464c33fcd305c3edaa5\/geneve-servette-vs-lausanne-hc#playerId=c2459fe4466815bb11edf180\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Antti Raanta<\/a>\u00a0from the line-up, it was a controlled game by Gen\u00e8ve who narrowly outshot their opponents 25-23. <a href=\"#playerId=08ac22745602e522a1f54c3f\">Vincent\u00a0Praplan<\/a>\u00a0led the charge for his side with a stunning five-point performance.<\/p>\n<p>Lausanne\u00a0had a mountain to climb and got off to a great start scoring 1.49 minutes into the play. An unfortunate step by\u00a0Praplan\u00a0saw <a href=\"#playerId=7ae999436d92760d20794e6d\">Antti Suomela<\/a> poke-check the puck to\u00a0<a href=\"#playerId=a84a590a868de2f10ec93cd7\">Damien\u00a0Riat<\/a> who slid it past netminder\u00a0<a href=\"#playerId=54237beaee015e61f8868fb3\">Robert Mayer<\/a>\u00a0to make it 1-0 for the visitors.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A hooking penalty on forward <a href=\"#playerId=fef16f864910d46e4ad14e24\">Oula\u00a0Palve<\/a> would have been another chance but was run down by the hosts. As regular play resumed, Palve now fresh out of the penalty box redeemed himself instantly, rifling a slapshot from the high slot, and past <a href=\"#playerId=6a13ac179a5b45bb110d48a3\">Kevin\u00a0Pasche<\/a> to equalise at 6:33.<\/p>\n<p>A little over a minute later, the hosts extended the lead 2-1, this time through Praplan who managed a neat, mid-air deflection off an initial shot from veteran blueliner <a href=\"#playerId=039b0ce597c0aca0e9a2bae0\">Arnaud\u00a0Jacquemet<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Riat collected his second unassisted goal of the night, this time dangling his way into the slot to net the 2-2 equaliser at 14:28.<\/p>\n<p>Gen\u00e8ve continued the onslaught in the second period, taking advantage of any defensive errors by their rivals, including a poorly calculated clearance by Pasche, whose pass up the boards was intercepted by Praplan, after a perfectly executed forecheck from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/previews\/2024-25\/all-switzerland-playoff-matchup-between-geneve-servette-and-lausanne#playerId=4cbe22c67f9e4b540ad262f1\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Michael \u0160pa\u010dek<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Trailing 3-2, Lausanne&#8217;s Top Scorer Suomela came dangerously close to pulling the trigger on the doorstep of Mayer but lost control at the critical moment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A tripping call on Canadian forward <a href=\"#playerId=be973a68e3ab6e0b82978367\">Josh\u00a0Jooris<\/a>\u00a0handed Lausanne powerplay number three of the night, but they couldn&#8217;t muster any offensive magic before the period intermission.<\/p>\n<p>Lausanne netminder\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/previews\/2024-25\/all-switzerland-playoff-matchup-between-geneve-servette-and-lausanne#playerId=52b141bf5bd9a693cb262649\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Antoine Keller<\/a>\u00a0stepped in to cover the final period for his team and was tested quickly. Less than two minutes into the play, Praplan would net his third goal of the night, a cannon, just in from the blueline.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To make things worse, a call on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.championshockeyleague.com\/en\/previews\/2024-25\/all-switzerland-playoff-matchup-between-geneve-servette-and-lausanne#playerId=7ad507b661f55e6898bd771e\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ken J\u00e4ger<\/a>\u00a0resulted in a penalty shot being awarded to the home team. Praplan who had been running hot all night, deked, pulling the puck to his backhand to beat Keller a second time, lighting the lamp a fourth time, and bringing the score to 5-2.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#playerId=a1b33ff9a2fb418bcf8f9eb4\">Jason Fuchs<\/a> netted his first goal of the night, reducing the deficit to 5-3, but Gen\u00e8ve were primed for two more powerplay goals, off the back of a high-sticking call on <a href=\"#playerId=26762d3c914673cf63bf639b\">Gael Haas<\/a>. Six seconds later\u00a0Teemu Hartikainen would strike at 51:57 to make it 6-3, and Jooris once more, taking the scoreboard to 7-3.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Back on equal strength, Lausanne&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"#playerId=4beea90c1217bac3d66bbd21\">Michael H\u00fcgli<\/a>\u00a0responded to cut the deficit 7-4, but with less than six minutes remaining in the period, further efforts would prove futile.<\/p>\n<p>The final buzzer sounded 7-4 in favour of Gen\u00e8ve, who would close the series 12-4 on aggregate.
