Backed by home support and guided by the energetic Marsch, they possess the attacking quality to trouble any opponent.

Jonathan David remains their most reliable source of goals, while Alphonso Davies is the team’s biggest star, although injury concerns have clouded his tournament. Canada have never won a World Cup match, losing all six of their previous fixtures at the finals, but home advantage offers a golden opportunity to change that narrative.

SWITZERLAND | The benchmark in Group B

Head Coach: Murat Yakin
Captain: Granit Xhaka
Key Player: Granit Xhaka
Fifa Ranking: 19th
Best World Cup finish: Quarter-finals (1934, 1938, 1954)
Nickname: Nati

Switzerland have become one of international football’s most dependable tournament teams. They topped their qualifying group to reach a fifth successive World Cup and have advanced beyond the group stage in four of the last five editions.

A crucial 4-1 victory over Sweden sealed the top spot before finishing off with a draw against Kosovo. Veteran midfielder Xhaka remains the heartbeat of a side built on organisation, discipline and experience, while Breel Embolo offers a real goalscoring threat. They may lack the star power of Europe’s elite nations, but Switzerland rarely beat themselves and deservedly enter the tournament as favourites to top the group.

BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA | The dangerous outsiders

Head Coach: Sergej Barbarez
Captain: Edin Džeko
Key Player: Edin Džeko
Fifa Ranking: 64th
Best World Cup finish: Group stage (2014)
Nickname: Zmajevi (The Dragons)

No team in Group B arrives with greater momentum. Bosnia and Herzegovina stunned four-time champions Italy in the play-offs to secure only their second World Cup appearance and first since 2014.

At 40, Džeko remains the face of Bosnian football and provides invaluable leadership to a squad that is a blend of youth and experience, while Sead Kolašinac is the defensive lynchpin. With little pressure and plenty of belief, Bosnia have the potential to disrupt the expected order and could emerge as one of the tournament’s surprise packages.

QATAR | Seeking redemption

Head Coach: Julen Lopetegui
Captain: Hassan Al-Haydos
Key Player: Akram Afif
Fifa Ranking: 57th
Best World Cup finish: Group stage (2022)
Nickname: Al Annabi (The Maroons)

Qatar return to the World Cup determined to show that their disappointing showing as hosts four years ago was not a true reflection of their quality. Much of the squad’s attacking threat still revolves around Akram Afif.

The creative dynamo and undisputed superstar of Qatari football is known for his exceptional vision, dribbling, and playmaking ability from the wing. On paper they appear the weakest team in the group, but that may suit them. Free from expectation and carrying valuable tournament experience, Qatar will hope to spring a surprise or two and keep their knockout-round ambitions alive.

Group B may not feature a traditional global powerhouse, but it promises to be one of the most…

[4
31625,39830,42318,42312,42315,190,42310,36746,42308,563,3786,42306,42323,42322,197,42307,42316,42313,38052,42309,42311,42320,309,39829,42314,42319,599,42317,42324,41,17,42325,42321
post-82095","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-switzerland","tag-2026-fifa-world-cup","tag-akram-afif","tag-akram-afifbest-world-cup","tag-alphonso-davies","tag-alphonso-davieskey-player","tag-asia","tag-belief","tag-bosnia-and-herzegovina","tag-bosnian","tag-canada","tag-canmnt","tag-consistency","tag-edin-dzeko-best-world-cup","tag-edin-dzeko-key-player","tag-europe","tag-fifa-world-cup-home","tag-granit-xhaka-best-world-cup","tag-granit-xhaka-key-player","tag-group-b","tag-group-b-world-cup","tag-group-b-world-cup-2026-group-b","tag-hassan-al-haydoskey-player","tag-italy","tag-jonathan-david","tag-jonathan-davidbest-world-cup","tag-marsch","tag-qatar","tag-rowan-callaghan","tag-sergej-barbarez-captain","tag-swiss","tag-switzerland","tag-the-dragons","tag-the-maroons
["GET
